Viral Dynamics

This blog shows how viruses move about a community during an outbreak. There are 5 simulations of viral outbreaks each showing different conditions under which the outbreaks occur.

The simulations are generic not necessarily about any particular virus such as SARS-CoV-2. Consequently, the simulations are descriptive rather than predictive.

The first simulation shows the progression of an outbreak where nothing is done to contain it.

NO PROTECTION

The second simulation considers the effects of vaccines. In this simulation, 65% of the population has been vaccinated.

VAX 65%

The third simulation investigates when 95% of the population is vaccinated. The question is whether even more vaccination produce benefits.

VAX 95%

The fourth simulation looks at the effect of wearing face coverings. Specifically, 65% of the population wear masks.

MASK 65%

The fifth simulation extends mask usage to 95%. The question is whether more using facing coverings affects the outbreak.

MASK 95%
